LABORATORY SERVICES AND SCOPE

The River Water Quality Group is part of the Laboratory of Marine and Terrestrial Animal Diversity of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, supervised by Emeritus Professor Mrs. Maria Lazaridou. The lab is compiled by experienced staff of various specialties, holders of master and/or doctoral degrees, with several years of experience in scientific programs concerning sampling and samples’s analysis of benthic macroinvertebrates from rivers (sorting, identification and ecological quality).

Fields of activities

The River Water Quality Work Group is the first (and only) Greek lab that was successfully certified in the sampling and analysis of benthic macroinvertebrates of rivers, as well as in the assessment of their ecological quality (with the automated programme EQGR) according to Quality Standard ISO 17025:2005 (July 2019). The accreditation was handled by E.SY.D. (Certificate number 1173), ensuring the high level of performances of the lab. Specifically, the certification concerns the following tests:

  • Samplings of benthic macroinvertebrates of rivers (internal method based on ISO 10870:2012 and ISO 16150:2012)
  • Sorting, Identification & Ecological quality assessment classification of benthic macroinvertebrates of river ecosystems (internal method based on ISO 8689_01:2000 and ISO 14996:2006).

In addition, the River Water Quality Group, due to many years of experience can provide support services in environmental issues concerning river water bodies.  The fields of activities are:

  • Typology – Typical conditions in river systems,
  • Pressure analysis – Impact of human activities,
  • Hydromorphology,
  • Physico-chemical parameters.

We remain at your disposal for any further details you might want to discuss and look forward to working with you in the future.
